Medicare

Osteopathic treatment is not usually covered by Medicare.

Under specific circumstances osteopathic treatment may be partially covered by Medicare. The rebate only applies to patients who have a chronic or complex condition and have a referral for osteopathic treatment from their GP under a Chronic Disease Management Plan.

There are set eligibility guidelines set by the Department of Health as to whom the GP can and cannot place on such a plan. If you would like to discuss your eligibility, it is crucial for you to discuss it with your GP. It is against the Department of Health guidelines for any allied health professional to pre-empt the GP’s decision about the services required by the patient. As such the osteopaths are not able to contact the GP on your behalf. We very happily take phone calls, or other communications instigated by your GP regarding your health (with your previous approval, of course).
